Disaster Management
"In 2004, I was vacationing in Sri Lanka when the devastating tsunami struck. I immediately began helping Red Cross relief efforts there. When I returned to Canada, I realized how important it was to be able to help my own community. I became a disaster management volunteer, and later began training other volunteers in my community. I am proud that I was able to help people in this way. It's something I'll always have and I'll always know I can be there when I'm needed."
and former youth volunteer in Vancouver.
Disasters strike every single day – every day, the Red Cross is there.
Flooding, forest fires, hurricanes and earthquakes wreak havoc on communities in Canada and around the world. The Red Cross works with communities to help prepare them to face disasters, provide urgently needed support when disaster strikes, and support families who have been separated and are seeking to reunite.
